History Rhymes, a poem

At the very least we should all be aware of what was given to get us here, and maybe think about where we're going with it, and if that's a good idea.

A photo in sepia,
Prized possession,
Comfort on a trip
Fleeing repression.

These people of old,
Everything sacrificed,
Promise of freedom
Worth every price.

How easily forgotten,
Their bold example.
We repeat the cycle,
Our rights trampled.

Party politician's
Senile doddering,
National trust lost,
Endless squandering.

Smartphone distractions,
Drone bombing runs,
The debt skyrockets,
As we come undone.
