At Speed, a poem

Hobby, or obsession? Hard to say.  

A yearning need
Some may recognize
Obsession with tempo
For life, lived at speed

Fingers tap, tapping
Repetitive quick tattoos
Nervous gesture knots
Chasing racing thoughts

Only release, to be
At pace, fully engaged
In sharpening velocity
All else upstaged

Time shrinks
Clings like plastic
Every consequence
Potentially disastrous

No space for reflection
Full-sensory receipt
Hands gripping wheel
Each second, complete
