Antifa. Oh, Antifa. They are the result of the Democrats not being able to win in the realm of ideas, so they have to resort to violence and intimidation tactics. You know, like they did when they created the Klan.
For those of you not "in the know", Antifa was a group from 1930's Italy, that sprung up as a response to the Mussolini regime. The movement was supported and funded by Stalin and Trotski, and used violence and guerilla tactics to try and undermine the fascist movements in Italy and Germany. Hence the name, "Anti-fascista", or, as they're more commonly known, "Antifa".
Now, you're probably wondering, "Dude, what does this have to do with our current political climate?"
The short answer: Not a damn thing.
The long answer: a bunch of college kids have left the world of education not knowing how to argue for what they've been taught to believe. Any ideas opposed to their political worldview had always been hidden from them or quashed down, so they're unaware of how to handle those with whom they disagree. Not only that, but they are not able to handle the fact that others disagree with them at all. So, unable to fight in the realm of ideas, they must resort to what they know; that being name-calling and childish acts of violence. They believe that the people who disagree with them are fascists, so they took up the mantle of "Antifa".
Antifa responds, without a hint of irony, to those they deem "fascist" and "Nazis", by smashing their property, violently infringing on their right to peaceably assemble, throwing bricks, and beating people over the head with bike locks.
How is it that, in a world where we're more connected to each other than ever, we seem more and more polarized? A lot of people seem to be under the impression that we're headed for another civil war. I don't know if it'll escalate that far. But if people continue to look at their political opponents as being evil and/or subhuman, we're eventually going to get there. Not even those crazy Democrats will say it's ok to shoot someone on the basis of a political disagreement. Yet. But a Nazi? Well, that's a different story. It's not only considered ok to attack a Nazi, it's downright encouraged. And when you're told that everyone with whom you disagree is, in fact, a Nazi... Well, that just makes it that much easier to pull the trigger, doesn't it?
