The machine was built around the premise that the flow of time could be triangulated so a person could speedup and go beyond a point during the past and return to coordinate point or a past vector on earth. The math was simple trigonometry with points in the cosmic realms. However, the first test proved science wrong by a marginal error. The premise was that the passed vector would completely hold all matter that was part of the past. Meaning setting foot in a deserted sand dune should not impact history at all.

The first attempt at use no one notices a software updated that changed the vectors and size of the material. Instead of going to a different time the vector toke into account a cosmic parallel universe hoping universes and instead of bring over exact sized material the measurement of the material was struck down to 1/1000 of its size. Thus the first attempt to go over the past succeeded but in a different way.

Instead of sending a person into the past to 1863 time frame the machine picked a whole battlefield and struck it down to the size of ants and placed it in the plaza next to the machine. Thus, in a parallel universe, Pickette's charge was suddenly gone along with the Union troops. What was more surreal was the machine also picked up a universe parallel that held Lewis Carroll's Red and White queens charge during the battle of the Jabberwocky and Alice. And both these battles were placed on top of a park which held two warring ant colonies.There for the issue event made for a wild weird sudden change. From the North was Union cavalry charging, from the South Pickette from the east the Red Card army with a dragon, from the west, the White Card army and all between them fire ants fighting against the death. Relatively unseen by the professors clicking the switch on and off wondering what was wrong with the machine.

The warring sides not being able to communicate with ants started to form around their queens, and generals. The Union army having the most soldiers against the ants tried to break through the north. However, they were fighting right into the colony of ants. While the Red Queen's jabberwocky could do the most damage to the ants was getting ganged up on and soon was being overpowered by fire ants, which finally could tear the wings off the small dragon.

The White Queen and General Pickette could communicate the fastest being closest together, and the Queen gave the White army cards direction to follow the Generals lead which to defend to the Queen and ground currently controlled versus charging anywhere.

Thus saying the whole war was soon over when a left blower came along blew the survivors into the next block.

The machine changed history on three worlds that day. The civil war was stopped and both north and south separated into different countries. In Wonderland without Queens, the Mad Hatter was elected president and led a revolution against the flowers. And on the planet where the machine worked, the future of bugs was changed and the red fire ants were declared victors after enslaving the Union soldiers.
