*Tips Fedora* A Ridiculous Joke that is Worth Ruining by Explanation

Gradually I've shifted over the past year and a half from basically philosophical deist to philosophical Christian. I know you're thinking, dear reader, that at every other opportunity I've demonstrated that I'm fairly intelligent and discerning and therefore you wonder why I've gone and "joined the dark side" of not just anti-intellectualism, but seemingly also anti-intellect, -- you also might want to know what denomination of crazy I am so as best to avoid certain conversations, the answer is that I'm my own sort of crazy and will remain so regardless of the other lunatics in the asylum so there are plenty of interesting minefields/conversations to be potentially explored, but maybe not, least of all if it has to be aggressively converting me to sanity, which has never been a suitable belief system in my opinion. So what changed my mind? The thing which did the most to change my opinion were the sort of people who really fancied themselves as intellectuals. If this weren't enough, the conclusion I reached was something rather different from the secular dogma frequently accepted by the aforementioned intellectuals that natural selection in humans favours intelligence, and therefore they are the pinnacle of the species. I've had a long time to observe, and the more I've written the more humble I've become about the limits of my own intelligence, and the more I've noticed the kinds of things people believe, and what they do about them, once they've decided that their beliefs are correct. I even tried writing a book, only to find out that I didn't like my own philosophy that much, although you can find it on my blog, it's my Philosophy of Hellenism series.

Been up and down that mountain a few times I'm happy to say, although it's always better to make the descent.

The conclusion I reached was that nature does not favour intelligence in humans, contrary to common perception. There might have been a time in the past of the human species when intelligence were the dominant variable driving the natural/sex selection process in human ancestors but that time is long, long past. Instead, humans are evolving smaller heads** and I have a partial theory as to why. It is no secret that the process of giving birth in humans is complicated by our very large heads, but if intelligence were so valuable, why wouldn't the process of expanding cranial capacity just simply continue, and women would just simply have to deal with what this means for maternal mortality, or just evolve wider and wider hip bones? Or wouldn't our heads just stay the same size if we couldn't get smarter, but intelligence were so worth it? On the contrary, intelligence is only marginally important, one only needs enough intelligence to make a sociable being who can work in a specialized trade. Those intelligent enough to be anti-social, are the real evolutionary throwbacks, who have to fight harder because the middle-to-low range of intelligence produces people who co-operate more easily and can thus combine their efforts to be reliably more effective than the loner. And maybe that's the problem with those fedora tippers, or perhaps its not, maybe its just the supremely subtle and totally useless emotion known as pride, and maybe if they got over that hurdle, we'd be somewhat vindicated as a society insofar as being able to say that the young generation hasn't been totally ruined by our mismanagement.

At any rate pride is in Christianity the most serious sin, and here I agree strongly; it's also been noted by researchers in the field of psychology that pride is at best not very useful, while at worst completely counterproductive. Opinions are divided on whether the negative aspect of pride results from high self esteem or low self esteem (it's likely the latter). But even with positive varieties of pride, military historians have noted a phenomenon known as "victory disease" where the commander's overconfidence leads to a military defeat or some kind of strategic disaster. Pride is also why the otherwise meaningless image of a fat teenager wearing a hat that is far too old for him drives a certain type of atheist and presumed "intellectual" totally insane, because it means nothing, but pride hates being poked fun at. In fact we have far too much pride in our societies and my theory is that we are degenerates because of it. It's pretty cancerous; we have gay pride, black pride, white pride, just to name a few which are plain stated. And of course just plain average vanity, which is about the most harmless manifestation of pride, and even then, I'd rather avoid those people.

So I don't expect everyone to just give up whatever ideas they have and become religious, many people I'm sure hate the thought, and this won't become an apologetics channel either, as if I should opine upon a topic I've only recently taken an interest in. But bear in mind that before gay pride really got going, gay people didn't make a show out of their private lives, before black pride, inner cities had functioning communities, and before Aryan pride Germans didn't have an inter-generational guilt complex. So the conclusion which is easily reached is that pride is responsible for all degeneracy in one form or another, that and you should probably discard any fedora you happen to own, especially if it is in reality a trilby.
