If you have been noticing any of my posts lately they have been all about cryptocurrency and it being my new obsession.
Since I am fairly new to this I have mostly been researching newer and less mainstream coins. Bitcoin and Ethereum seem to have a larger barrier to entry. And learning about all the algorithms available on the many blockchains has helped push me in a different direction.
I found Electroneum when I first started researching. And it still remains my favorite of all the coins. I feel like its potential future and upsides are massive compared to any other. There are only a few things I think they're going to have to figure out and that could harm its future.
First I'll mention what I think the cons are.
The algorithm being used is cryptonight. This is fine for now. It is asic resistant and common enough that there is free mining software for basically every hardware available, thanks to the Monero success before it. However, Monero has moved to a reworked algorithm because asics were being created. ETN will need to do the same I think.
Secondly, the difficulty to mine has risen pretty rapidly. With having a goal of being easily accessible, the ability to mine it on non-mobile hardware is interesting in this regard. The higher the difficulty the less accessible it becomes for normal people. And I just wonder if the mobile miner will keep up with this.
I do however think the upside to electroneum far outweighs the potential downsides.
The mobile miner pretty much gaurentees people can at least get some ETN. Usually around 1-2 a day. I have still not been able to tell if that goes up with multiple phones mining though. So while bigger hardware can mine, and will get more than just relying on the phone, anyone with a phone can consistently receive coins.
Their main goal is mass adoption. This is pretty lofty. Most coins seem to have just become some kind of valueless stock-like trading commodity. Or they are being used strictly in shady trade deals because of the difficulty tracing. ETN aims to be a real world everyday currency. And it is poised to do so with some of the interesting things they've customized about it. Having a more readable format with only 2 decimal places, and easy to use app, an active development team, and much more.
Perhaps the most noble goal of all is their desire to fuel growth in poorer countries. When a country's currency loses all value to the outside world it makes it difficult for them to import goods and needed services. If electroneum succeeds in their mass adoption goals, it could boost these economies greatly.
How? Because electroneum will be valued the same all over the world. 10 electroneum coming from Haiti is just as valuable as 10 coming from your neighbor. This would enable them to get the goods and services they need.
So how do you sign up? Easy! Either go to the website and create a wallet or download the Android app, which will also let you create a wallet (iOS is coming soon.)
The process is a bit lengthy due to their dedication to your privacy and security, but once you get through it things become as simple as pressing a button on the app.
If you do sign up and feel like it, you can use my referral number. It will give me 2% more on my mobile mining but it will also give you 1% more. So win-win! And thanks in advance if you do.
