If You Could Travel Back In Time - Would You Kill Hitler? A Fictional Series - Part One

Let's imagine for a moment, time travel was actually possible and you could travel back in time and avert bad developments from unfolding...

In this scenario, the time travel agency (TTA) would take applications for interested time travellers, you as many others apply and finally, they pick you for the job. Of course, you are happy to serve to do good. You are excited about upcoming adventures and given your skill, knowledge and cool, you are perfectly prepared to take the hit job.

And without a doubt, the often expressed imagination of travelling back to the first half of the century to kill Adolf Hitler would be on the top of the TTA to-kill-list.

Your first job as TTA hitman is to jump to Munich in Germany on November 1st 1923

The date is exactly one week before Hitlers first attempt to overthrow the government, which in that case was Socialists running the Bavarian state.

On arrival, you would go to the next (later) Allied embassy, make your point and proof you are in fact a time traveller and that your job is to kill a certain A.H. who is a WW1 veteran, painter, homeless and political extremist. They won't know much about him, but your iPhone will convince them of your background. They will give you the requested sniper rifle, a local guide who knows Munich and some Reichsmark for you to have a good time in the Hofbräukeller until the day for the good deed comes.

Then, on November 8th the coup attempt starts. Hitler is surrounded by a bunch of WW1 veterans and has the secret backing of higher ups within the officer ranks of the more or less existing leftovers of the WW1 Wehrmacht. The putschists have some war gear which they built up and so the barricading and shooting begins. You of course know this in advance, which is why you could position yourself in an ideal spot. Perhaps in an appartment with a window overlooking the scenery. There you are sitting and waiting with your rifle for Hitler to appear on the street agitating his soldiers to take him out.

Since you have been trained on the specific rifle before the jump, it's easy for you to do the job. One shot in the chest and Mr Hitler is an evil averted.

Happily about the desired outcome, you say "Auf Nimmerwiedersehen!" to your guide, hand him over the rifle and rest of your RM. And just to add an ironic time traveller twist, you also tell him that Johnny Weissmuller and the two Finns (sic!) Paavo Nurmi and Ville Ritola will dominate the Olympic Summer Games the next year in Paris. An information, he will surely know how to turn into a fortune.

Then you calmly take a deep breath, exhale and hit the "back" button of the TTA app on your iPhone. One second later, you are back home today. There, while still standing on the travel pad of the time travel apparatus, you realize, something rather strange and unexpected has just happened...
