STOP WHATEVER YOU WERE DOING BECAUSE THIS JUST IN: High School Musical is basically a Socialist wet dream. No, really.

As I was busy, as usual, being productive studying boys, er, I mean my academics, the realization suddenly kicked in. High School Musical- yes, the same Disney High School Musical that featured Zac Efron (or as some cultures know him as, Adonis) and the unfairly beautiful Vanessa Hudgens- is not as innocuous as it's made to seem. For underneath all the rainbows, ponies, fake basketball players and annoyingly catchy songs which you still know all the lyrics to, is a dark underlying message... of socialism.

And no, I am TOTALLY NOT reading too much into a fun Disney flick. And yes, I do have a life.

Think about it. The heroes of High School Musical are Troy and Gabriella. But the real heroes should have been Sharpay and Ryan. Sharpay and Ryan have worked hard all their lives. They've got the passion to succeed. To quote them in the song "bop to the top":

"Work our tails off everyday

Gotta bump the competition

Blow them all away"

Ladies and gents, I present to you, the REAL heroes of High School Musical

I mean, that's dedication right there. You need dedication and hard work to succeed. Ask any successful athlete or anyone in the top of their field. They sacrificed a lot to be number one. That's what separates the winners from the rest. They deserved to get the role in the lead play, but guess who gets the lead roles?

Power of love, I guess.

Yup, that's right. Basketball player Troy and nerdy Gabriella who don't work as hard to get the roles. They get in because... the power of love I guess? And cuteness? Come on people, Ryan did a cartwheel. A CARTWHEEL!!!! And Sharpay had that weird tango thing, but anyway, it was entertaining. They thought out of the box. All Gabriella and Troy ever did was go around singing "Breaking Free" and raising their arms like a  Nazi salute while the Capitalists (AKA Sharpay and Ryan) pour time, dedication and energy- they gave their lives to the theatre, only to lose out to two people who love each other.

Oh come on Disney, gimmie a break.

This is how the power of love makes me feel.

In sum, the socialists (Troy and Gabriella) who don't work as hard but depend on love win, whilst those who actually gave it their all are defeated by the power of love. The movie tries to make Sharpay and Ryan's characters unappealing. It tries to make their dedication to their craft look un-cool, whilst sending the message that Troy and Gabriella's dedication to, you know, cuteness and lovey dovey stuff is what'll make one succeed.

Here's my message to you Troy and Gabriella

Well that's all for now. Join me again next week as I write about how Pokemon is the greatest example of Capitalism and How Dr. House can teach Marvel a thing or two about Character development and how everything is a socialist conspiracy...

Ech. Better lay off the coffee for a bit.
