With a 7 out of 10 on IMDb, it's understandable why this film did so well.
It's nothing like the original and doesn't try to be like it. It's, it's own film that pays homage to the Robin Williams original.
It starts with a young man playing video games on what looks like an atari console, who was handed a board game. After the game turns itself into an Atari cartridge, the young man plays the game and gets sucked in. 20 years go by and four teenagers find it and also join the game.
Jack Black stole the show, his portrayal as a teenage girl, who's trapped in a middle aged man's body, was perfect. While each actor did a great job, Jack's performance was the best.
The humour in the movie was good, it wasn't forced, like I've seen in other movies, its more authentic.
What I didn't like was the villain....he was very weak and it was horrible and boring to watch him.
At the end of the film the four teenagers go to check out the freak house, which is where Alex lived and went missing from (20 years ago). They stand on the road watching as a silver car pulls up and a man and his family hop out. Older Alex is played by Colin Hanks, and he spots the teens and walks towards them.
They immediately start talking as if they know each other and Alex somehow manages to guess all their names right. You think about that, Alex has never seen what they looked like in real life but yet somehow knows it's them from the game.
If I saw four teens staring at me, I'd be freaked out and walk straight into the house....
But apart from that it was a good film, easy to watch, I'd be great to watch with the family. I didn't really think I would enjoy this movie, but it caught me by surprise.
I didn't see this in cinema, I watched this at home in my bed room and the film looked and sounded great. It would have been a good movie to watch in cinema.
I would recommend watching it.
