What Does it Mean to be British?

This is a question that as of late has been circulating a lot?

Why is this? Why now is the question of what it means come up?

Could it be because those born and breed here are asking it or because those with an agenda are trying to paint a picture to quiet those born and bred here?

Allow me to refer you to Britain's own national Broadcast (an error already since they are hardly broad in either their views or their staff) the BBC. Now the BBC setup a nice Youtube video that at present has a ratio of 1000:1 against it, seems quite a lot of people actually hate the message that it spews and I can't blame them.

Alongside this I'll provide a very eloquent response by Minds own @DaveCullen for you to enjoy alongside this.

Now the BBC claims the values include: Democracy, Rule of Law, Individual Liberty, Tolerance and Equality. This I find hilarious for many reasons so let us break this down.

Democracy: Funny how this is a value they bring up when during the Brexit negotiations the BBC was hardly democratic in its works going as far as to be pro EU which is as far from democratic as possible (so far)

Rule of Law: In recent years can we say the Rule of Law is being followed when we have seen Sharia courts crop up which means it is in direct opposition to the host nation rule of law. What about the recent Speakers Corner Muslim prayer allowances that were put through?

Individual Liberty: Again self defence and determination are out the window with this one, case in point the fact a man can be arrested in defence of his home while the criminals family can openly harass/threaten those affected, where is the liberty there.

Tolerance: Again to anyone who has read my blogs you know my position on tolerance but for those that haven't, I'll link my feelings towards using tolerance as a virtue

Finally Equality: Equality is all but words to these people, a word to throw around when wanting something, equality regarding things like birth control, abortions, hell even AC controls.

So let's go over some of things I think what it means to be British mean:

Pride - Being a part of a country that has been instrumental to the prevention of a totalitarian regime. Pride that we've come so far and that even though we've faced endless attacks from many sides we have still retained some of our heritage (though that'll disappear very soon)

We should also take pride in the number of famous inventions (Link) and famous people (Link)

Resolute - We've been at the world stage with stories of our resolve appearing in many forms, WW1 & 2, Rorke's Drift, The Battle of Waterloo, The Battle where Admiral Drake became famous.

Intellectually Progressive - As I have already pointed out Britain has provided many great inventors, inventions and military achievements which should provide a sense of intelligence and people should aspire to be so.

Disciplined - Again going back to a more military approach, Britain became famous and feared despite being a small island why? Because of its naval power and the training of its military force as a disciplined unit. The schooling system was just a strict and this brought up people with an understanding that respecting it's just expected it is earnt.

BUT ULTIMATELY what we should ask ourselves is what most fail to realize and that is just being part of a nation doesn't make you a member. I can't go to America and claim and I am American, I can't go to Japan and claim I am Japanese. Not even being born in that nation makes it so. Take for example I get married to a Chinese lady, we travel and the child is born in Jamaica , what does that make the child? A third British, a third Chinese and a third Jamaican? That must get very confusing.

What do my readers think, what makes one PART of a nation?
