Voltron: Legendary Defender Season 5 (Episode 6) Season Finale
"White Lion" opens up with Lotor and the force discussing the lost world of Oriande. This land is where King Alfor learned the secrets of Altean alchemy; that knowledge is what led to the creation of Voltron. After activating her artifact they see that Oriande is located in a zone of space not dissimilar from the Bermuda triangle. This place called the Patrulian Zone is no different than it's Earth counterpart as it is a graveyard of ships around an anomaly.
Soon after entering this space they discover the true nature of the anomaly. The center of this ship graveyard is a "White Hole". A white hole is naturally the opposite of a black hole. While a black hole absorbs mass etc a white hole emits energy instead. After some data crunching they launch Voltron into the white hole.
Voltron while able to withstand the pressures and radiation is unable to resist Oriande's guardian. A celestial beast in the form of a white lion. They try to retreat but the lion blasts them with pure energy! They dodge but the Castle isn't so lucky. In addition, Voltron took heavy damage and has been separated then rendered inoperable.
Lotor and Allura seem to both have "Altean Marks" that are glowing on their faces. These marks are to denote the chosen; the chosen who can enter Oriande. Allura and Lotor are the only two who can enter Oriande. With that they make their way to some personal craft. They enter the white hole and are greeted by the white lion though this time the white lion is a bit more tame.
Upon entering Oriande's air space they are greeted by a fantastic landscape though they are alone and flying blind. Allura and Lotor have a revealing conversation about Lotor's past and how the Galran empire was a force of destruction. Shortly after they come upon an castle and are invited by the white lion to enter. They enter a room of statues depicting the sages though they would soon find this statues are guardians. Before any real trouble happens though Allura appeases them with a offering.
Shortly after they enter into yet another trap. The ceiling is slowly falling upon them. After solving the puzzle Allura and Lotor end up in a dreamscape. The white lion attacks them both! Though they are both in the same situation they approach is totally differently. Lotor challenges the white lion head on and defeats it with force; while Allura takes the opposite approach and gives herself up to the lion. Unfortunately for Lotor he chose... poorly.
Allura is accepted into the Altean alchemical world of the life givers and gains what she seeked. They return to the Castle and restore power; however, a familiar being is watching! Haggar now has a new plan and she is on the move.
This concludes this season of Voltron. Overall this season has managed to keep the standards high with just the right amount of humor, action, and story. The defeat of King Zarkon was one of the highlights and the ongoing story of whether or not we can really trust Lotor or not is riveting. This episode is a 8/10 with the entirety of the Season being a 8.5/10. Voltron keeps pushing the boundaries and is easily one of the best on Netflix or anywhere.
