Destruction of Free Speech

Today definitely feels like free speech is disappearing and it might be if we allowed, that in the next 10, 15 years free speech may look entirely different than we know it, In fact, we will no longer be able to call it free speech. Social media censorship, google, facebook, twitter and so on. Countries in Europe that are introducing new laws that limit speech in some way, and censoring of our self, trough interrupting panels, speeches sometimes even with violence or simply scaring venues into canceling events. Free speech is disappearing.

While I'm pretty sure its happening all over the world but in different ways and some places don't and didn't even have free speech. So I'm going to focus mostly on Europe and North America, places that are known for free speech in their past, which right now for some reason we are losing and pretty soon door might get entirely shot on free speech. We are seeing the disappearance of free speech in different ways. While laws may prevent governments from stopping you from speaking, there is also personal responsibility for upholding our free speech, in sense, we won't punch someone for simply saying something that we disagree with or get fired for something you sad in private. We are seeing this today more and more. While before if you said something at work, something crazy, you may just get avoided by your colleagues at work, while today you may certainly get fired for it. We are seeing venues cancel events because they were intimidated by another group. Or simply coming and disrupting a panel or speech that someone is holding. You should definitely protest and challenge truly extreme ideas and trough simply talking, using your free speech change someone's mind who might be considering it. In the USA we could see a repeal of the first amendment. In Europe, there have been many new law pests making offending someone essentially almost illegal. And the accepted way of thinking is going to get smaller. I think right now is best-suited quote from Martin Niemoller "First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—

Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me."

They are definitely racist, evil people out there. I think the best way to change someone is trough talking with him or her to change his or her mind. And they are already laws against hatred and inciting violence, but true hate cause everything is considered hate these days. We can't start punishing anyone before the speech even happens, we need to have a free exchange of ideas to progress in a free society. If we allow corporations or governments to decide what we can say or not is going to be used against all of us.

If a person who you disagree with doesn't have free speech. Its no longer free speech, then its freedom to conform. And that's not a free society if you ask me.
