Q&A Time

When did the conservative dinosaurs become the new counter-culture and how did the liberals become the voice of the politically correct police? Because the answers are so varied I can point my paw in every direction and still be correct.

SPOILER ALERT: Media, NYC, those in power, and Millennials

In the early 90’s Fox News shifted their paradigm by performing a market cannibalization of their share of the market share. The cable networks were taking the market share from the big three (NBC, CBS, and ABC). CNN reversed the trend of market share loss by shifting to the left. CNN & FOX didn’t have to play the center’s message because their audience is only concerned with confirmation bias. During the 2000’s the sides continue to drift further apart as the center news sources began to lose viewers.

Smaller markets were either gobbled up, merged or didn’t have the budget to produce original content.

As millennials began to emerge as the dominant market force in the 2000’s the advertisers wanted to reach out to this new group. Madison Avenue was charged with reaching with this demographic. This generation would, according to the similar patterns by most children living in the first world nation. Teens would start off liberal and as they entered the workplace they should shift towards being more centralized and in the adults, years would shift towards conservative. Madison Ave assumed the Millennials would follow the same pattern.

What these ad professionals didn’t realize was that unlike Gen X, Baby Boomers, the Millennials were not raised by the TV. Video games, the internet, social media and other forms I didn’t mention had their influence. TV programming lost their power. The children of the new age who didn’t go back to the box were looking for something to their confirmation bias, not shape it.

Those in power soon attacked their opposites, like they have always done, but now the rules have changed. Brand loyalty, to a particular party, began to erode.

My voters don’t like those “-ists” and so we must stop them!— Generic Politician.
