Q. I’m in a dilemma about my relationship with my father. He never phones me back when I leave a message and is proving to be a nightmare.

He is 89, lives on his own and moans about everything, from not being able to keep on top of domestic duties such as washing clothes and cleaning the house to the care my mum receives in her care home. I have suggested he get a home help and assistance with meals and even that he should try assisted living, but he is very obstinate and just ploughs on regardless.
