The second of my crops to get going this year is the leeks.
This isn't the first time I have done leeks, but this is the first time I have done it with any planning! My first time was about 10 years ago and I totally messed it up. So this time, armed with some knowledge, I'm having another go.
Nothing fancy here... It's just a standard 24-cell tray with 2 seeds per cell. The seeds are small so there should be no issues.
Because I have shaky hand syndrome I always go with using trays with cells. It makes it easier for me to thin or transfer when needed.
If you are going to do it this way do yourself a favour and always put the seeds in a set pattern, I do top left and bottom right. This allows you to know at a glance if anything else happens to grow, that it is likely a weed.
I also find that pinching out is easier this way... But that is just be personal choice.
It's worth taking a moment to point out that these seeds were bought last year. While they are still 'In date' I don't have a good idea about how viable the seeds are, so just like with the peas last time I am overestimating how many I need. I can always do something with the extras.
And so, with the seeds in place and a splash of water administered, off the tray goes to the bedroom window to see what it does!
According to the packet the seeds should come up within 2 weeks.
