This week On That Bombshell Manifattura Automobili Torino announced they will build a Lancia Stratos, Subaru showcases the last, rarest WRX and Ford introduce the Ranger Raptor but what is my opinion.
Manifattura Automobili Torino (MAT) a bespoke coachbuilder are planning to build 25 Lancia Stratos based on the Ferrari F430. Manifattura Automobili Torino is known for producing cars such as the Glickenhaus SCG 003 and Apollo Arrow.
This car produces 542bhp, 383lb ft of torque, 0-60 in 3.3 seconds and weights 1247kg. There will be three versions of this car a GT racer, a Safari version and what the brand calls 'a competent supercar for the daily use'.
It was commissioned by billionaire German entrepreneur Michael Stoschek, chairman of car parts supplier Brose and a rallying enthusiast. The design was penned by Pininfarina, however, Bertone won't be working on this car.
At least there is going to be great Lancia that will be reliable and looking revolting. The last true Lancia was the Delta Integrale Evo which was a great swansong. As Clarkson stated, "Lancia was the Ferrari of Rallying." I agree with Clarkson.
Now we are seeing a resurgence in the coachbuilding business. Manifattura Automobili Torino has a competition between Ares Design who are producing a remake of the De Tomaso Pantera which looks amazing.
When Geneva motor show arrives this car will most likely be the star this year with the De Tomaso Pantera if it's there. The company behind it have a pedigree, hopefully, Pininfarina will spin there own design and the Ferrari F430 is a great base. My favourite version will be the GT Racer.
Subaru is celebrating 50 years of being in the U.S with making 50th-anniversary editions of all of their cars in the range. In particular the WRX due to this vehicle ending the production line. There will only be 200 of these cars ever made making it the rarest WRX made.
The specs of this car are standard with a 0-60 sprint time of 4.6 seconds and a top speed of 160 mph from a 2.5-liter boxer engine delivering 305 horsepower and 290 pound-feet of torque.
What differentiates this car from the standard is the exclusive Heritage Blue exterior paint, special badges, It also has unique alloy wheels and satin chrome trim. The interior has silver contrast stitching and matching seatbelts. 50th Anniversary logos are embroidered on the front seats and the carpeted floor mats.
The 50th Anniversary Edition is also based on the high-level Limited trim, meaning that it features an extensive list of standard equipment, including Recaro front seats, a sliding moonroof.
Even though the Subaru Impreza STI bloodline isn't the first car to bring rallying to the streets it popularized it with Lancer Evo. Sadly this car with the Evo had a silent death. These vehicles where versatile from being in the rallying scene to being used in ricer/tuner scene in G.B/U.S.
In my opinion, both the Lancer Evo and WRX had lasted too long but the death was pointless just so they can make more SUV's. I know SUV's are super popular at the moment due to it being bigger which would make people think it"s safer than it is (placebo effect). Mitsubishi and Subaru know they can sell more SUV's compared to saloons. That's life.
I really like pickup trucks due to their utility and towing capability compared to some vehicle categories (I'm talking about SUV's). Now the Ford Ranger Raptor increases more power from a 2.0 litre 4 cylinder diesel engine that develops 210 ponies.
The team behind it called Ford Performance say "‘it's a motocross bike, snowmobile and an ATV rolled up into a pickup truck". The styling of the Ford Ranger Raptor has been heavily inspired off it's bigger brother the F-150 Raptor from the front grill to the rear.
Here's the weirdest bit of this car, Ford hasn't announced if this car will be sold in the U.K or U.S just yet. At first, the Ranger Raptor will be sold in Southeast Asia and Oceania.
I think this car has a huge chance of arriving in the U.S and U.K the fanbase of the Ranger is huge especially in the U.S. Who wouldn't want a builders truck in the day and rugged off-roader at night.
Even though supercars are my main bread and butter I do love a good pickup truck and this is no exception. Talking about pickup trucks the Ford F-150 sells nearly 2 on average every minute and the U.K next to none.
The only reason I don't see pickup trucks selling in the U.K is the rear cabin which people can steel objects in the rear cabin easily. Proven in Jeremy Clarkson's Ford F-150 lightning review.
This week On That Bombshell I praised the new Lancia Stratos before it was revealed, I talked about the WRX plus ramble out SUV's and I gave some stats of the Ford F-150. Thanks for reading this article. What do you think about this week's news? Is it boring or exciting? Thanks for reading and On That Bombshell goodnight.
