Successful Veteran Stand Down

Sunday 14 January 2018 - I was able to help out The American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 974 in Franklin Park, IL at their annual Stand Down for low income and homeless Veterans.  The Post (Vets) and Squadron (Sons of the American Legion)974 were on hand to help along with the local Boy Scout Troop and a few people who came in from the local Church. We opened the doors at 7:30 am do to the cold and there were already people waiting for the event. Lunch was served at 11 am and warm cloths along with personal items were distributed to 107 Veterans who needed help. We also had the Representatives from Veterans Affairs Commission of Cook County who set appointments to help cover bills, A veterans assistance group from Oak Park, a group that helps Vets get jobs and American Legion Service Officer Ray Toczek. 

The volunteers spent Friday and Saturday setting up for the event and moths before that gathering donations of clothing and supplies.
