It has been of increase that our contemporary media throws around the term “body shaming” and the related term “fat shaming”. In particular this is the domain of the leftist feminist, that society “body shames” women. Over 65% of Americans are overweight and obese and the number one killer in America is heart disease which medical studies have established over and over again to be strongly tied to and frequently caused by obesity. Other related health problems such as Type 2 Diabetes and High Blood Pressure are also easily medically established to be tied to obesity and being overweight in a causal relationship. I myself escaped from obesity by following a vegan diet, having lost one third of my body weight by doing so. A vegan woman is unlikely to be obese, as a vegan diet is likely to be high in fiber and lower in saturated fats. The leftist feminists want to ignore the fact that these disease are real, that obesity causes them, that obesity can be done way with through diet and in particular vegan diet and exercise, and that if one is overweight or obese that is best for that individual to do so to avoid say going blind, having one’s foot amputated or going into a coma as a result of type 2 diabetes. I feel a good vegan is going to argue for the health of vegan diet even if they are more so oriented around animal rights. With regards to animal rights on this question, it is important to stress that a woman with a vegan diet is less likely to be obese, so these feminists who want to rage against body shaming want to do so at the expense of animal lives. I’m dead serious, that’s how it works. That is what is real. The media speaks of a right wing war on science, but there is as much so the existence of a leftist war on science particularly from elements within the feminist camp. Judith Butler famously argued that biological sex is a social construction, ignoring the material medical fact that it isn’t. Similarly, it is now that leftist feminists want to ignore medical facts regarding obesity. I see the system of meat consumption as broken at both ends. When one sees very clearly the benefit of vegan diet, the health problems brought about by consumption of animal product, one has to wonder why animals must suffer and die to perpetuate habits that are unhealthy and sometimes fatal for humans. The human body operates just fine without additional cholesterol and high cholesterol kills millions dead. Not everyone who eats meat is going to develop high cholesterol just as not everyone smokes dies of lung cancer, but that does not make smoking healthy nor does it make meat eating healthy. As I don’t view eating meat as healthy I don’t see killing animals as necessary. These leftist feminists can’t have weighed these realities and still hold to their “body shaming”. Traditionally it is the case that Veganism is associated with leftism, but I feel the Vegan should really take a good hard look at many of the things that the far left says that are counter to the cause of Veganism. I have written also previously about the ways in which the welfare state perpetuates the consumption of meat and high rates of obesity as obesity is rampant within the welfare class. A good vegan woman who exercises regularly likely isn’t going to be body shamed by the 65% of the American population that she is most likely thinner than. I’m not saying that vegan woman should suddenly go to a torch rally with Richard Spencer or subscribe to the New American or anything, but surely this is another area where vegans must reconsider their relationship with the far left, probably in favor of libertarian or at very least a more centrist political understanding. The leftist feminists are not going to stop whining about this excrement, and in doing so they are going to ignore a.) the health problems created by obesity and being overweight and 2.) the well-being of animals. In theory, by leftist feminist definitions I “body shame” women by telling them they should become vegan in order to be thinner and healthier. If that’s the kind of speech leftists want to suppress, that is indeed very dangerous. As a vegan I don’t care for it. Any good vegan will have to take a look at the issue as it continues to gain media dominance. In the end of the day all leftist political arguments about “body shaming” can be countered with the word “hypertension”. If women don’t want to meet my beauty standards that is their thing, but I can’t lie and say that obesity is in any way good for your body. That is what these leftist feminists want of me, and I’m not going to give them what they want on that.
