Senior BBC women including Emily Maitlis, Sarah Montague and Clare Balding backed Carrie Gracie today after she resigned as China editor in a protest against pay inequality.
Gracie, 55, quit her post with an open letter to BBC audiences published in The Times accusing the broadcaster of pursuing illegal and discriminatory policies, but appeared as guest presenter of the Radio 4 Today programme this morning as planned.
