SVD is Snayperskaya Vinyovka Dragunov. It is a Russian sniper rifle. This is a review of Goat Guns' replica of this rifle.
I first heard about Goat Guns from my oldest son. He showed me the AK-47 replica he got and I was enthralled. I immediately went to their Website to check them out. I couldn't decide which ones to get so I ordered their Supply Crate (10 replica guns.) They shipped (free) it the same day (Monday) and I received it on Friday of the same week although it was a holiday (Veterans Day.)
Assembly is required. Fortunately, Goat Guns has excellent assembly videos which I viewed several times just to get a feel for the assembly. I decided to assemble the SVD first today.
Everything you need is in the box including a small magnetized screwdriver. The parts are metal cast and high quality plastic. I was impressed with the finish and heft of the parts. There is no Trophy Stand with this kit as advertised. You don't need it; the rifle comes with a bi-pod.
Fully assembled, the rifle is 12 inches long. It feels very solid. The magazine (with 3 cartridges which can be inserted/removed) mounts/dismounts like the real rifle. The bolt is spring-loaded and can be pulled back. The trigger also pulls back and you can actually sight through the scope.
My only complaint is that the screw head on the right side which holds the switch for the firing mode is not black.
Over all, I am very pleased. It is going to be difficult deciding which one to assemble next. I've decided to give each one of my three sons two of the rifles as a Christmas present. That still leaves me with four!
