A man stabbed his three-year-old daughter to death in Porvoo. The man took the child from her mother early this morning and took her to a near-by school playground and pulled out a knife and started to inflict wounds on her. The police arrived about ten minutes later while the girl was still alive and the police had to use force(?) to remove the man from the situation. The child died later in hospital. The 40-year-old man had been evicted from the mothers house and the woman was trying to get a restraining order for him.
The case is quite unique in Finnish crime history while filicide does happen it is usually not done in broad day light and it is often an "extended suicide". The man is a French citizen and apparently originally from the Caribbean. He has been convicted for beating his other teen-age daughter for not acting to accordance to their cultural norms(?) and has kidnapped the younger daughter several times this year for short term and also taken her to his native Caribbean without the consent of the mother.
Pretty rough, eh? Well here's where it gets weird. Charly Salonius-Pasternak a well-known progressive research-fellow for the Finnish Institute of Foreign Politics and a politician him self tweeted to YLE-news and MTV-news - two major Finnish news agencies - and asked them not to publish the tragedy. Because there are also happy stories to tell the people.

The title says it all. When I read that the Green party had hired several people strong anti-sexual-harassment task force for their party caucus earlier this year I thought they were being hyper PC but now in the light of the recent Hollywood scandals and Finnish equivalents surfaced after the #metoo campaign I'm thinking if the red-green bubble is actually rife with sexual predation. But on the other hand I don't think work place harassment is a pressing issue concerning the idle greenies who tend to spend a decade in the university without ever setting foot to an actual place of work.
The overwhelmingly feminine peace building group "the Lennons - Lennonit" organized by former president and Nobel peace price winner Martti Ahtisaari is challenging us to admit our own faults to build peace in our own lives. In case you know Finnish you just might want to check out the video demonstrating their vision of how to resolve conflicts. No worries, with these bright-eyed teenage girls telling us how to conduct our-selves there is no way anything could go wrong.
Marketing and advertising journal "Markkinointi ja Mainonta" is telling us that we should be concerned about the fact that the Finnish "Reuters" - STT is closing their Swedish language news service FNB. This put's the Swedish speaking minority in an unequal situation because their chances of getting news in their native language are diminishing. And apparently it's not just their rights of getting information that is endangered - it's also threatening their rights of getting their message across. I'm shocked, how can we do this to our fellow Swedes. Luckily at least the state has been supporting the operations of FNB by covering more than 50 % (400 000 €) of their budget (764 000 €).

Now the funny thing is that the article also tells us that STT is closing their Swedish speaking side because two of it's biggest clients HSS (Hufvudsstasbladet) and KSF stopped using their services and started their own news agency. They are shutting down the service because no-body is using it anymore.
