The Minds social network is the only free-speech platform that allows anyone to reach people outside their subscriber base. The innovative “boosting” system is key to creating an atmosphere where a culture of freedom can thrive but without regulation it could also be the mechanism that brings the platform down. To protect freedom of expression some restrictions will have to be applied. This paradox is infuriating to some but is a necessary evil. Minds has the capability of becoming available to the entire world which has certainly attracted the attention of those who would seek to control social media. Any misstep could spell doom for the company and competitors are just waiting for the chance to strike. To secure peace, Minds executives must prepare for war.

As Minds evolves more freedom and features will be added, but right now there is some confusion over why certain posts haven’t been boosted. This is upsetting to more than purveyors of pornography as activist and parody channels are finding a lot of their content is not boost friendly. Not boosting content is not the same as censoring as any content can be made readily available on anyone's channel, but it is restrictive and can be frustrating. Here is all the information that could be found regarding getting boosts approved. By following these guidelines, everyone will have met all the terms of service.

The content cannot contain any @name threats, harassment, doxing or violence. This would include:

  • Tagging other channels on content that implies they are engaged in criminal activity.
  •  Campaigns that slander groups/individuals or call for violence against a group/individual.
  • Content that is salacious and targeted at groups/individuals.
  • Content that reveals personal information about an individual that isn't already published by the individual on Minds.

Content that could not be viewed from a work terminal or school computer will not be boosted under the Not Safe For Work guidelines. Any content that contains the following is ineligible for boosting:

  • Nudity
  • Intense sexuality
  • Profanity
  • Disturbing content unsuitable for children

Every post that follows these guidelines is eligible for boosting. When protesting make admonitions against actions and not people. A good example would be "We must stop such. Stand with us against this thing here." An example of what would be ineligible for boosting is, "This person/These people/This group engages in this really bad thing. Let's get them."

It is permissible to protest an organization but one cannot make unfounded accusations against a group in any content rather protests must be non-specific. A good example would be "End this group's influence", or "Stop this organization." An example of what would not be boosted is "This organization engages in criminal activity" or a picture of criminal activity that implies a stated organization is culpable of.

One way to effectively protest on Minds that will get boosted are posts that decry an action and then link to the main cause via hashtag. When creating hashtags the names of individuals or groups will not be boost friendly so create hashtags to reflect what is being protested against and not who is engaged in the action being condemned.

To say that Minds is censoring content is a stretch as any who have been banned would have first had to have broken the law. If Minds didn’t remove these channels they could get shut down before the platform was out of Beta. That isn’t to say that Minds executives aren’t working to create a worldwide open platform, but they must work within the foundations of the societies they want to reach until technology and innovation find a way around them. Now more than ever, Minds needs all the support the public is willing to give as they bridge the gap between allowed speech and free-speech.
