Facebook Euthanasia: Censorship Killed the Media Star

Let’s face it, the moment your grandmother poked you after posting a search query in the status bar facebook became a fad. Like all great fads facebook has had its moment in the sun but the sunlight is fading fast and what is crawling out of the darkness is casting an evil shadow across timelines everywhere. Facebook, much like your favorite yellow dog, has become rabid and needs to be shot.

If you’re asking yourself why you should care, allow me to debunk all preconceptions about staying on facebook, and why you should switch to another social network.

 Myths of facebook’s Allure:

1.) Facebook is just a company trying to make money and as such it must remain loyal to its customers.

Nothing could be further from the truth. facebook has and continues to sell out every one of its customers to all bidders. That’s who facebook is really loyal to. If a sponsor or celebrity wanted you gone from facebook it would instantly be as if you never existed. Read your terms of service and be horrified to realize everything that you’ve created that is on facebook, belongs to facebook, even if they decide to terminate you for any reason.

2.) Facebook is a great business marketing tool.

If you are trying to reach college students then yes, facebook is fantastic and bully for you go get those drunken youths. If you have a business that caters to anyone else then your facebook page is worse than a business card because the only way the non-college student demographic will find your facebook page is if it is printed on the business card you hand to them.

3.) Everyone I Know is on facebook.

Everyone who is on facebook is also on other platforms. Zuckerface would have you believe that facebook is integrated into the social fabric. It wasn’t but 7 years ago the premiere social media platform was MySpace. Many people have already started leaving facebook. The migration began long before Mark Zuckerburg cashed in by scamming people into buying stock in facebook. Like the dot-com bubble before it this too shall burst. A recent Princeton forecast says facebook will lose 80% of its peak user base within the next three years.

          4.) Facebook isn’t evil.

Yes, it is. Facebook is filtering content worldwide to appease China in a bid for market share. Facebook keeps track of things you never posted. I’m not just talking about the selling of information that when culminated is essentially your “online self” making you host to every parasite willing to shell out a buck. I’m not even talking about targeted ads that smash every page long after you’ve purchased the item.

I’m saying facebook is evil because they are literally playing with your mind. Data scientist Adam Kramer led a recent study in January, 2012 that shows facebook manipulated the news feeds of over 680,000 users, removing either all of the positive posts or all of the negative posts just to see what effect it might have on those unsuspecting users. To facebook their customers are nothing but guinea pigs and chattel.

If you’re staying on facebook because you like social media, there are plenty of other choices and chances are your friends are already there. If you’re staying on facebook to stay up to date with your friends and family, know that the life they present is incredibly embellished. If you really want to know what is actually going on in their lives, call or visit them personally. If you’re staying on facebook to stay current, know facebook controls your news feed and you can never really trust that it is showing you anything current or relevant to your life or the lives of your friends.

Fakebook is a censorship factory using you in its army of trolls to flag and filter content by having you rate its validity in an attempt to shield its users from “fake news.” The only thing we need to be shielded from is facebook’s mental manipulation to force consensus on social issues by reinforcing group think through controlling what we see in our news feeds. If we are ever going to find common ground between different ideas we are going to have to encourage discussion by creating a social marketplace that allows for a free exchange of opinion, no matter how extreme.
