Brexit? Put Up or Shut Up

Well, she's done it. Prime Minister Theresa May has called a snap General Election for 8 June.

And the #BigSoc feedback's already started.

Between the speculation as to why she's chosen to do this now and the usual name calling (Thatcher's no longer the only evil witch in town, by all accounts), there's very little in the way of a sensible conversation.

The social media war has already started and we Brits are going to have 8 very long weeks of a repeat of the #Brexit and Scottish Independence hysteria.

There will be lies, counter-lies and enough #FakeNews to trigger a major meltdown amongst the usual pollsters and analysts.

So I'm keeping this short.

I have friends on both sides of what is now becoming a divide of Grand Canyon proportions. Currently, they stay my friends because, up until now, I've kept out of the #BigSoc feeding frenzy during all of the name-calling, smear campaigns and divisive tactics.

I can see both points of view. I value my friendships more than I value having my opinions heard. The work I do to support what I believe in tends to be below everyone's radar.

So I'll just say this.

Whether you wanted Brexit or not, whether you agree with any political party or none, please stop and consider what your next post on the subject will do to your online friendships.

Because political upheaval comes and goes, but trust, once destroyed, can never bloom in the same way ever again.

Right, I'm off to armour up. Once more into the breach, dear friends...
