Wikileaks is the most prolific journalistic structure on the planet. The ability to get hidden information and reveal it to the public, no matter how corrupt, has kept our population informed about a slew of things. Some of these reveals include POV video of American military taking out civilian targets (see the first video below), tens of thousands of emails implicating Hillary Clinton in mass scandal and the NSA surveil of the American people.
Without an organization like Wikileaks, we would still be in the dark regarding all of these things.
Regardless of if you want to get in line or break out of it, knowing the truth is going to make your life easier. It may not be more pleasant, but you will be more informed and better able to make a decision and that will enrich your life. You are not born to be a puppet.
Many organizations that do not want to upset the status quo deride Wikileaks and its founder, Julian Assange. Assange has been holed up in the Ecuadorian embassy in London for the last four years, avoiding extradition to Sweden where is wanted for alleged rape and sexual assault charges. He believes Sweden would hand him over to the US, where he could face criminal charges for his work with Wikileaks.
Journalism's not supposed to make you happy. It's supposed to wake you up. This doesn't always feel good, but the truth is more important than your feelings. Such is, in the race for survival.
So, when CNN oh-so-gloriously tried to scare people into believing that possessing Wikileaks articles was illegal, well, it just kind of spat in the face of democratic journalism.
It's this kind of public knowledge that should be accessible by everyone. Stifling it isn't going to make it go away.
Here he is, towing the party line and being a good lap dog.
