"Millions of Americans are starving while billions of dollars of food are being thrown in the dumpster," say the creators of Unsung, the app that gets unsold food to those that need it.
In fact, $500 billion worth of food is thrown away every year in the United States. This is horrendous and a serious slap in the face to those that need it.
Levergang the sharing economy to solve hunger is the plan. Any restaurant, grocery store, catering service or if you just have extra food, you can log onto the app and tell them what you have. You get a tax deduction and a driver comes to pick it up to deliver it to someone that needs it.
Every meal delivered is broadcast on the live feed, delivering a new level of transparency.
The app is planned for release later in the year as the Unsung crew develops the network of users around the US. So far, the test in Austin, Texas, has seen the delivery of 1,000 meals that would have otherwise gone into the trash.
