American skydiver, Luke Aikens, has become the world's first person to complete a jump from 25,000 feet without a parachute.
“I am almost levitating; it is incredible what has happened,” Aikens said after he rolled out of the 100-by-100 foot net that caught his fall.
Aikens and his crew spent 18 months preparing for the jump and he was well aware of the risk. “If I wasn’t nervous, I would be stupid," he said, before the jump.
At 25,000 feet, Aikens required an oxygen mask. At 18,000 feet, one of the people on his jumping team removed it.
The angles of the fall are incredible.
The jump was actually not Aikens' idea, but a friend's. At first, Aikens thought not, saying he had a wife and kid to worry about. Then he changed his mind and made history.
