Construction expert and video maker, April Wilkerson, has put together a simple, easy-to-follow instruction on how to build your own, super comfortable hanging bed swing.
“It’s almost like a porch swing but a little larger so that you can stretch out a bit more,” she says, from her blog.
Her materials list is as follows:
6 – 1 x 6 x 8 pine boards
8 – 1 x 4 x 8 pine boards
2 – 1/4″ x 3″ carriage bolts
2 – 1/4″ x 2″ carriage bolts
4 – 1/4″ washers
4 – 1/4″ nylon nuts
2 – 3/8″ eyebolts
2 – 3/8″ nylon nuts
4 – 3/8″ fender washers
2 – Large S hooks
2 – Small S hooks
Paint
Chain – I purchased 30′ of chain that’s rated at 340 lbs
Wilkerson suggests getting the cushions first, as it is easier to cut the wood to fit the already constructed fabric. “I do not recommend building a swing and then going to find cushions to fit it It would be much easier to get the exact cushions or mattress then build your frame and deck to them.”
By following April's plan, you could soon have a super comfortable porch or tree swinging bed for under $150.
