It began when Oregon resident, Ron Rusnak, decided to remodel his trailer into a guest-house. He gutted the interior and insulated it from the elements, added a removable porch and secured two doors with lots of windows.
He added 24 inch cabinets, an apartment sized range and a sink with a pull-down faucet.
There's a bathroom with a 32 inch shower and the loft bed is accessible by ladder
After finishing the custom, contemporary 200 square foot apartment, he listed it on Craigslist and sold it for $36,500 within three weeks. It still has remnants of the trailer and is now an economical full studio
This is a great story on both accounts. Not only is it super economical and simple to live small, but with the know-how you can build a genuine home out of relatively little, starting only with the husk of a trailer (or a shipping container), and sell it for profit.
