The federal government admits that marijuana can shrink brain tumors

The National Institute on Drug Abuse published a paper, revised in April, 2015 acknowledging that "recent animal studies have shown that marijuana can kill certain types of cancer cells and shrink others."  Also, that "evidence from one animal study suggests that extracts from whole-plant marijuana can shrink one of the most serious types of brain tumors" and that "these extracts, when used with radiation, increased the cancer killing effect of the radiation."

These are bold admissions from a federal agency that marijuana has healing value and may not belong on the banned, Schedule 1 narcotic list.  This also coincides with a bill introduced by Senator Cory Booker called the "Compassionate Access, Research Expansion, and Respect States Act of 2015" that would move the drug to Schedule II, meaning it would be completely up to the states as to how they legalize marijuana.

Tom Angell, chairman of the Marijuana Majority said that “When even NIDA and the surgeon general are acknowledging that marijuana can help people who are suffering, it is time for the Obama administration to reschedule the drug.  The attorney general can initiate that process today."

One thing that would speed up the process is for the FDA to approve it for use as a medicine.  In the paper, the NIDA says the reason the FDA has yet to approve it is because "researchers have not conducted enough large-scale clinical trials that show that the benefits of the marijuana plant outweigh its risks."  The FDA is either antiquated or actively ignoring massive evidence that could change the world, both through health and industry.  The United States could lead the world in hemp export and processing for medicine, food, oil and clothing.
