I read this article from thefirearmblog.com recently on the Czech Republics battle to expand gun rights. When you look at gun rights in nations other than the United States you can see similar dynamics at play with many of the same trends and patterns in politics.
The Czech Republic is currently battling its own laws and the European Union in an attempt to strengthen gun rights. The Czech Republic has a constitution and bill of rights but those rights are more commonly specified by regular law often following a given right "under terms set by another law".
The European Unions ideology on guns very much reflects American Democrats and some Republicans wanting mental health checks, restricting many firearms, magazine capacity limits, barrel length regulations, red flag systems of some kind, etc...
This makes it very difficult for the Czech Republic to establish a restriction against government power as strong as the 2nd Amendment. If they fall out of line with the EU they will face backlash as the article mentions.
"Shall not be infringed" is American exceptionalism and it works better than any other nations laws to protect gun rights even if its not perfect and has been infringed quite a bit.
The same gun control patterns and problems in the US are amplified in other nations. As I focused on in my previous article even the only other two nations that have a right to bear arms fail to protect it in practice as the constitutional articles ultimately give the decision to the federal government or a "competent" judge. Not to mention both give the right within the home.
When you allow a right to be infringed upon within the law it obviously leads to the right being infringed and over time being useless or gotten rid of all together. There may need to be some regulation but simply making a right dependent on the federal governments or voters decision is no right at all.
Some of the United States founding fathers knew this and managed to instill it in our system. This built gun culture in the United States and lead to many strong advocates of the constitution and American exceptionalism today. Now some in the Czech Republic recognize the same underlying idea and want to do the same thing. The United States is truly revolutionary and progressive. With the internet its spreading more and more to the surprisingly large audiences of non-corporate entities with varying ideas and viewpoints.
Along with other nations own experiences and the natural development of politics and ideas, the flow of information and support from the United States over time will help spread stronger values and protections for stronger free speech, a right to keep and bear arms that shall not be infringed and more.
