I have internally debated writing this blog for a while. I decided that if I was going to continue to login to #Minds that I should post.
This blog brings me no joy to post.
I had high hopes for #Minds and was one of it's biggest cheerleaders. I created videos about Minds, I appreciated the ( admittedly limited ) interaction I had with the folks running it, answered other users support questions, pimped it to my friends and associates, etc.
While I understand the pressure the leadership is under with respect to the policing its users (I am sure they have been watching Gab very closely) In my opinion things are going in a very negative direction and portend unfavorably for the long term prospects for Minds.
I know something about big platforms shooting themselves in the foot.
I consulted for Yahoo back in the day, when it was still a thing... I also created a six figure proto-social media website for ( one of the big two ) political parties that had built in user bases. It was ruined by short sighted management. I could go on...
One thing that I learned was that your users are really all you have. All your code, infrastructure, etc., no matter how good, is mostly useless if no one is logging in.
The majority of the people I enjoyed interacting with on Minds have left. Most directly related to the direction Minds has been heading over the last 6 months or so.
@Luculent is a bit of a different case, but the result is the same.
@jack @nick et. all - I think the service / platform you have created is at a crossroads. Not for nothin', but I would hate to see Minds listed in the MySpace category, and it is hubris to think that is not a distinct possibility.
