Entrevista / Interview

You act as a director, writer, screenwriter, producer, teacher, and YouTuber. Which of these roles is most central to your creative identity, and in what way do the other roles strengthen this work?

Eu tinha corridas do Senna, lutas do Tyson, a campanha do Penta, noticiários, novelas, comerciais, desenhos e filmes.

English:

Professionally, I am a History and Geography teacher, working in the final years of elementary school and high school. I have no academic background in Visual Arts or Cinema; I am, essentially, a self-taught cinephile.

Perhaps that is why it is difficult to choose just one role as central. I believe I have a true "combo of roles." I am a director, writer, screenwriter, producer, and eventually even an actor. Each of these roles feeds the other.

Before working in education, I was a temporary military officer in the Brazilian Army for eight years. My discharge occurred in February 2020, and from March onward, the world was never the same again. I went through a period of unemployment, and in that context, I created a YouTube channel to promote a hobby: converting and preserving VHS tapes.

The initial idea was to create a kind of "nostalgic archive." I had Senna's races, Tyson's fights, the 2002 World Cup campaign ("Penta"), news broadcasts, soap operas, commercials, cartoons, and movies. My father used to leave the tape recording, and in the end, I had records of entire programming schedules from the late 1990s and early 2000s. I started separating frame by frame and publishing this material.

Later came the idea to use the channel to present my historical research projects in documentary format. As a teenager, I wanted to be a writer, but I realized the difficulties and bureaucracy involved in publishing a book. So I began turning many of those projects that could have become books into audiovisual works.

Artificial intelligence also became an important tool, especially given time and budget constraints. But I believe my main tool continues to be creativity.

Therefore, rather than choosing a single role, I see my work as a combination of several roles that complement each other.

PENSAR&ACREDITAR (handle: @pensaracreditar1233), which matches your description.

YouTube Channel: PENSAR&ACREDITAR

  • Channel handle: @pensaracreditar1233 https://m.youtube.com/@pensaracreditar1233
  • Channel description: The channel states it is "open to the general public" and features academic works, VHS conversions, and video content.[youtube]
  • Content focus: According to a channel post, it started as "a rather random collection" focused on nostalgic content and VHS tape conversions as a hobby.[youtube]

What originally contributed to you creating PENSAR & ACREDITAR, and what would you like someone who is discovering the channel for the first time to take away from that experience?

English:

After I produced my first short films, I started looking for other environments where I could present these works besides YouTube itself. I initially thought about submitting them to the Gramado Film Festival, but I discovered that the submission period had already ended.

From then on, I began researching and discovered a universe I had previously been unaware of: festivals, platforms, and screening circuits such as FilmFreeway, FilmFest, Open Film Zone, Shortfilm Depot, HorrorHound TV, Grindhouse, and many others.

It was an important discovery because I realized that a whole ecosystem existed for independent and amateur cinema.

Today, PENSAR & ACREDITAR also serves as my audiovisual portfolio. In addition to short films, the channel brings together very diverse materials, mainly related to history, memory, research, cinema, and personal experiences.

As an independent producer, the channel membership club also became a way to generate some revenue to help finance the productions themselves.

I would like anyone discovering the channel for the first time to perceive precisely this diversity: there is no single formula. There is a space where different ideas can find different forms of expression.

The name of your channel combines the ideas of "thinking" and "believing." What does this balance mean to you, both personally and creatively?

English:

There is a personal story behind that name.

In 2018, I was part of an adventure group. We practiced activities like rafting and skydiving. During the instructions for a parachute jump, an instructor of German descent saw my name on the participants' list, called me aside, and commented on the meaning of "Glauber," relating it to the idea of Glauben, associated with the act of believing.

He told me something I interpreted as a motivational message: think, believe, and trust in order to execute the jump. Curiously, I managed to make a perfect jump — although the landing wasn't the best, because I ended up fracturing a finger.

About two years later, during the pandemic, when I created the channel, the name that came to mind was precisely PENSAR & ACREDITAR.

It is not a self-help or motivational reflection channel. The connection lies much more in my way of producing. The documentaries stem largely from real facts; the suspense short films seek to provoke hypotheses, questions, and theories.

There is also a kind of provocation in the idea of "seeing is believing": first I present what I produced, and from there, it is up to the viewer to think, question, and form their own interpretation.

You participated in international online amateur film festivals. What did these experiences teach you about storytelling for audiences outside of Brazil?

Português:

Ainda estou aprendendo.

English:

I am still learning. In fact, I consider that I am building a kind of practical training within this cinematic universe.

There is a huge variety of festivals, and for financial reasons, I naturally give priority to those with free submissions or more accessible costs. But getting to know the festivals, organizers, and the different possibilities for circulating works opened up a completely new perspective for me.

Having the opportunity to present a work in a movie theater, or simply making it available to people from different countries and languages, is something sensational.

I haven't had the conditions to travel to attend a festival in person yet, but I intend to do so at the right moment.

I believe I still need to build up a certain "thick skin" in this scene. I am getting to know this universe, understanding its codes, its possibilities, and also its limitations. Every festival, every submission, and every feedback ends up being a learning experience.

What kind of stories do you believe are still underrepresented in Brazilian independent cinema, and what would you like to contribute to this conversation?

Português:

A história nacional é extremamente rica.

English:

National history is extremely rich. There are countless events, characters, places, and contexts that can serve as raw material for cinema.

When I think of works like Bacurau and Legalidade, I realize how Brazilian cinema can explore historical, social, and political themes through paths different from those of mainstream commercial cinema. And there is still a huge universe of smaller, local, and family stories that could also be explored.

There are so many plots, so much creativity, and so many "buried treasures."

My material is not yet a product in the financial sense of the word, but I would like it to be, at least, a product in the cultural sense.

We live in an era dominated by screens, replacing the former centrality of print. While this has democratized access to information, it has also made available to the public a massive amount of material of varying quality levels—some baseless, others biased, and many simply disposable.

Therefore, I believe there is room for new sources, new narratives, and new ways of cultural breathing.

Creating something new is difficult. There is that old idea that "nothing is created, everything is copied," but I believe we can transform, adapt, and recombine what already exists, taking advantage of the best it has to offer.

That is what I would like to contribute: finding stories that have not yet received the attention they could receive and transforming them into audiovisual experiences.

As a screenwriter and director, how do you decide if an idea is strong enough to become a complete film rather than remaining just a concept or script?

English:

I have more archived projects than developed projects—even having already produced about twenty short films.

As Glauber Rocha used to say, "a camera in hand and an idea in the head." At any moment, an opportunity, a material, a story to be explored, or even a dream that can become reality may arise.

Most of the time, I try to record these ideas and, as far as possible, develop and publish them. What really limits me are two very concrete factors: time and budget.

I'm not exactly a trend follower. I am quite random. Sometimes I feel like a kind of creative time bomb, shooting blind, throwing the hook off any bank and waiting to catch something.

The search for appreciation and recognition also motivates me. I believe that the broader a work is in terms of possibilities of reaching different audiences, the greater its opportunities for distribution.

I have specific works for specific audiences and more general works. In the end, I believe quality is not necessarily about reach, but about finding the right fit: the right piece in the right space.

It's almost like playing Tetris.

You also describe yourself as a teacher. What is the most important lesson you would pass on to novice filmmakers who may have limited equipment, financial resources, or industry contacts?

English:

There are different ways to learn. We can listen to a song or a podcast, read and interpret a text or an image, experience an emotion through sports or interacting with other people.

Cinema gathers all these possibilities. It is an interdisciplinary language, capable of addressing virtually any topic, anywhere, and for anyone.

For those starting out in this field that is the 7th Art, I would say that perfectionism is not necessarily the key to success. Nor does it mean that just anything is art. You need to study, observe, experiment, and assimilate knowledge.

There are cases of people with a kind of artistic predisposition, just as it is evident that money can facilitate certain stages of production. But there are also million-dollar works that failed to find their audience, and low-budget works that achieved great impact.

Therefore, the main lesson I would convey is: learn to learn.

Test, fail, redo, experiment, and be adaptable. After all, adaptability is also one of the characteristics that allowed the human species itself to reach this point.

Looking to the future, what projects, themes, or creative goals would you like to develop through cinema and the PENSAR & ACREDITAR channel?

English:

Let's get to the spoilers.

I released RED MARK OF BLOOD (NOTA VERMELHA DE SANGUE) in early September 2026. At this moment, I decided to concentrate part of my efforts on promoting works I have already produced, such as THE ATTACK OF THE TANGERINES (O ATAQUE DAS BERGAMOTAS) and MY LEGO ADVENTURE (MINHA AVENTURA LEGO).

For the coming years, I want to establish an approximate goal of five or six productions per year — roughly one short film every two months.

For 2027, I have several projects in development, including documentaries, a drama, an adventure, and a biography.

In principle, they will follow the production line I've been developing, using artificial intelligence as one of the tools in the process. But I don't rule out the possibility that, with more time, resources, and investment, some of these projects might gain a more traditional structure, with actors, real sets, and other production possibilities.

The most important thing is to keep producing.

I don't want to turn PENSAR & ACREDITAR into just a channel that posts videos. I want it to remain an idea lab, a portfolio, and above all, a space to transform what is in my head into something that other people can watch, question, and interpret.
