Their plans to plunder sunk treasure reminded him of the times he was a lover to Mona Lisa.  What?  Come now.  Leonardo was into shall we say similar interests with his kind. And I? i was a write in my time.. No one reads these days.  I was there when the first few paintings were made after all. What is time? 

Mona was a lovely lady.  She did need to shave however and a bit of perfume.  I was there for some books.  What books?  Secret.  That much I can tell you.  Some books hold value and value is afterall what there is in this world if you are part of this world. And myself?  I am not part of your world.  If I did I would influence it.  I did once upon a time hold sway over politics. And today I try my hand at entertainment. 

I was after the books not the paintings.  Of which I remember there are seven by the way. Who got one? Humor the noble had one sent to a friend in each of his political areas trying to make a statement or something.  One to France, one for Italy, one for Bavaria, one for an area outside of Moscow.  And the others? To be honest I forget.

The books. Now that is the story pirates should be interested in. Why?  Spain had an agreement of sorts with a family in Italy to transfer gold and silver into the economic system of Europe. And?

One of those books contained estimates or exact number of tons of silver and gold each ship  was to be transporting back and where it was to go. Along with the route of how it got from South America to ports in Italy and Spain.

So?  The secret of treasure is much of what was or is or will to be. Did not reach the port.  and knowing the exact route?

Well, with this new thingamajig I could easily pick up a billion or more.
