Alright,
Well it's been awhile since I made a shooting blog, but I figure this is a good subject for one.
So the situation, I have been in contact with a young woman who is interested in shooting. She has fired a few rounds before, but is by no mean proficient with any form of firearms.
The mission therein, over the course of 6 months or so, she will become proficient in a pistol to the point of qualification of sharpshooter or above (using the military M9 Alt-C standard qualification tables). This will require hitting the range at least 2 times a month. We have already completed 2 dry-fire days to get her used to handling the firearms prior to live ammo being involved. I think this step is pretty critical for new shooters, it gives them the ability to get their hands on firearms in a safe environment so they can get comfortable and make mistakes (and you should let them make mistakes). We have one more dry fire session prior to the range.
Now for the good part, the Range Plan:
1)25m Bullseye target (10 rounds)
2)5m single shot on VTac silhouette (15 rounds)x3
3)15m single shot on VTac silhouette (15 rounds)x2
4)5m double shot on VTac silhouette (15 rounds)x3
5)15m double shot on VTac silhouette (15 rounds)x2
6)5m single shot on VTac Silhouette (15 rounds)x2
7)25m Bullseye target (10 rounds)
200 rounds total of 9mm.
Again, this is a plan to really work on the basics. The 25m bullseyes at the start and end of the plan are to monitor the progress over time. Once we get good results from this iteration we will move on to more complex drills, but we need a solid foundation before we can make a good shooter.
