Free speech is getting harder and harder to find. It seems like everywhere we look people are getting silenced, banned and de-platformed. Surveillance these days is unbridled. The apps we use, secretly stealing our data as we mindlessly browse for hours upon hours. Big companies have absolute control over what, we the people, see every day. They use their subtle controlled suggestion to get us to spend our hard earned dollars as they see fit.

Facebook has 2.5 billion users (ya, I'm looking at you). They don't just show you content in chronological order, they show you what is relevant to you. Facebook tracks us in ways many of us don't even realize and is so good at it, we think it's monitoring our conversations. Instead, it uses sophisticated demographic and location data to serve up ads. Although they don't actually eavesdrop on our conversations, they have become so good at stalking us that they don't need to.

We're all familiar with the recent purge of YouTuber's, aren't we? Oh, maybe the news didn't cover that story... surprise surprise. Alex Jones, Info Wars, Yiannopoulos, Wael Abbas, Steven Crowder, Wiley and Stefan Molyneux are only a handful from the mountain of the banned and demonetized.

Now, these big platforms aren't required to give free speech to their users. They don't have to, They are private companies and by law they are allowed to enforce rules of their choosing to individuals who wish to partake in their services. That's all well and good, but let's look at the consequences of stifling these individuals. I'll put it very simply, let's say you have a point to express. You've got something important to say, like something people NEED to know. You've got a fire in your belly to speak, but your mouth has been taped shut. What do you do? Do you think you can just swallow this idea and it will disappear or does this passion consume you? Another example, what happens when you put people into lock down? Answer: They rebel. Not only that but the rest of the population is getting very comfortable in their little echo chambers seeing only the things that make them feel warm and fuzzy. In this way, people lose the capacity to handle other viewpoints and we get "Karens".

Simply put, communication calms the beast in us and toughens our skin. I mean, that's why we see therapists, duh. That way we can express and discuss our issues without hurting ourselves or others. Communication, discussion and open discourse are pretty important to progress across the board.
