Mr. Hall states in his book “The Secret Teachings of All Ages" that it is difficult in modernity to estimate the profound influence that the study of the stars, luminosities and constellations has upon religions, philosophies and sciences. Nevertheless, I want to try.

It seems to me, that because the stars are the only light present at night, or at least were at the time before artificial light developed. The celestial bodies were the ones that inspired the awe and inquiry among our earliest thinking ancestors at the time of rest that they had. When and if the psychedelic catalysts entered the picture the effect of the stars upon humanity I think did not change but intensified. The process of thought and the rapid evolution of perception led to the development of methodologies so that among them was the inception of astrology. The inquiry and awe that had our ancestors gazing at the stars is the mystery of who we are. The question of who we are is at the core of many disciplines that today are known as esoteric -well, aside of psychology-. If this is so, than it can be said that the study of astrology is the most ancient answer for the mystery of who we are. The beauty of a mystery is its infinity, the ever-present inquiry and curiosity that it arises with its presence. This aspect inspires fear for it is a straight look in the eye to the limit of our perception. But when you understand that limits may be the only reason that there is something rather than nothing you can see clearly the life that arises out of a limit. Just like the value of life arises as a result of the inevitability of death, it’s a dance of polarities, a melody of duality, an unsolvable and ever-present paradox, the horrible beauty of The All. Astrology explains for example how the deity of Serapis was conceptualised to explain the meaning of the existence of the sun. This being said, I don’t think that by being the most ancient makes astrology the best answer to the mystery of who we are, but I do think that it is a good point of reference to the development of our knowledge of being and existence. To the development of our perception out of  gratitude to our predecessors, the happiness of our lifetime and the education of our successors.
