I am currently working with a group of teenagers in an outdoor setting. We have an equal number of boys and girls, and carry out a mix of practical activities and more fun orientated activities.
Today was practical activity, they opted to split into single sex groups. It was interesting to watch how much work each group did as well as the amount of work put in by each individual. If they were getting paid the same amout per every metre of work completed, the boys would have been paid at least twice as much as the girls; who spent most of their time talking and taking pictures. Even when they did decide to do work, usually after much prompting it was rather half arsed to say the least. The boys on the other hand worked steadily, to a high standard and even managed to have a bit of craic whilst they were at it. Assuming these general trends play out in the vast majority of work places is it really any wonder that, when productivity levels come into it, that women end up earning less?
I don't get how feminists find this so hard to work out. Men should definitely not stand down and take a pay cut in industries where productivity or similar standards affect overall pay. Don't lower yourself to the lazy people's (generally women) standards, raise them up to where you are or leave them where they are; they need to learn you get what you genuinely work for.
