If it wasn't for you
none would have families
our lives would be shams's
our roads' would be black
you took us in with loving devotion
us six fatherless bastard's
with no degree of a notion
how this world would unravel
or what we'd have to handle.
you gave us shelter
from the drugs and deception
and made it clear
what's in your perception.
you extricated us
from what had been deemed nests's
though, it was in fact
your turn to rest
to begin anew
with six children to tend
life had to change
your fate had to bend
but you dug in your talons,
gritted your teeth
prayed to high heavens
your frame wouldn't crease
your foundation is solid
it stood square and still
though you reached that age,
a little "over the hill."
Faith imbued fibers
have kept my clothes strong
your blessed bread and water
have allowed me to struggle on
i wouldn't be anything
if it wasn't' for you
now for a rebuttal
before i turn and scuttle,
along down the road
you are the axle
which helps support our burdening load.
