This is a review of "The Fourth Turning" by William Strauss and Neil Howe.

Life and its history is cyclical and not linear. It is seasonal just like the four seasons.

History creates generations, and generations create history. This symbiosis between life and time explains why, if one is seasonal, the other must be.

The authors make a very good case for their cycle theory in this book.

The saeculum is a seasonal cycle of history, roughly the length of a long human life.

Within each saeculum are 4 turnings: High, Awakening, Unraveling, and Crisis.

Generations come in 4 archetypes (always in the same order): Prophet, Nomad, Hero, and Artist. They are born during each of the turnings.

The Fourth Turning is the only one that contains all four archetypes born in the current saeculum.

Winter is here. We are in the fourth turning.

This book was published in 1997 and it is prophetic. I have a better insight to the times we've been through and the times we will be going though. I have a better insight to the generations before and after me. Thanks to reading this book.

I don't believe the defining event(s) of our Crisis (fourth) turning have occurred. What will happen after these events? The authors don't know and neither do I. Who knows? But I am more hopeful.

It's a long book and I don't recall a book taking me so long to read. The reason is I have felt the need to pause and reflect as I read the book. It is one of the best books I've read.

Someone here on Minds recommended this book to me. Thank you! I've gone back though my many posts and blogs to identify the individual with no luck. Please identify yourself.
