I was quite busy lately reading the Lenovo laptop manual as I am trying to familiarize myself with the system before I install a 1TB hard drive. The laptop has a 256GB Solid State Drive which is very fast. It has no moving parts, so the read and write process are instantaneous. Windows has never been this responsive and fast. I’m very happy with the performance. However, I need more capacity, so I will install a 1TB hard drive to this laptop.
I am actually quite nervous because I am going to open up a brand new laptop and I worry I might break something. Although this is not my first time opening up a laptop, I’ll just have to be really careful then. I’m not a computer engineer, but I taught myself how because I am curious what the innards look like, how they work, and how to upgrade them.
Now, I’ve opened the laptop and this is how it looks like from the inside. It’s beautiful. A work of art.
This is the 256GB PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive. I always thought it looks like a hard drive, but it looks more like a memory module. Interesting.
This is the 8GB system memory encased in a metal shielding. Unless you’re doing professional video editing and running graphics intensive programs, 8GB is more than adequate. Since I’m not doing any of that hardcore stuff, I don’t think there is a need to upgrade it in the future. I’ll leave it “as is”.
This is the 1TB hard drive I’m installing. It’s a simple process. Nothing complicated. I simply align it with the pins, push it in snugly and it’s good to go.
The hard drive is now inside the protective shield and bracket. I’ve screwed it firmly to the frame and it’s time to close everything up and see whether it’s working.
I’ve initialized the hard drive, partitioned it, formatted it, and it’s alive. Thank goodness I did not encounter any problems. The installation was successful. I love it when it works the first time.
This task is done. Now, time to prepare for my travel itinerary. I’m packing my stuff next week and off I go to explore this planet and also have a little fun in the snow.
