By popular demand I've been sent this video by no less than 7 people at this point. I've rewatched the video twice. I investigated the film company and the Dr highlighted in the video and I have a lot of comments and thoughts to share.

Credentials:

Mikovits is indeed credentialed and has some legitimate accomplishments to her credit. She is a sober and reasonable scientist that seems to be at the very least genuine in her approach and not ideologically driven. Though, her experiences with Fauci and others in the scientific community suggest that her bias should be considered before lifting her up as "THE" expert.

Credibility:

Mikovits credibility is justifiably in question. Several of her key findings have been debunked (specifically on the science she was jailed for) and retracted (eventually) by her and her colleagues. Her position on vaccinations is a source of fuel for many anti-vax people and she maintains, despite her retractions, that her science claims from early in her career are sound. She's explicit in this video to say that she is NOT anti-vax, which is a sound position and proper position to take. However, her warnings on vaccinations (>30% are harmful) is not something that science supports.

The filmmaker in this film is known for several documentary shorts and feature-length documentaries that address social issues. His work is not singularly political or ideological (as best I can tell) In fact he has several films that fall on different sides of the political spectrum. One point that I saw in just the first second of this film is an error in the very first line of the "Fair Use" statement. There are typos/misspellings that suggest this was haphazardly put together and that some of this may not be going through solid editing. I generally call into question the credibility of a person who presents a professional product with those types of errors.

My take:

I'm going to be very cautious about using this video as a means of justifying my position on reopening. Largely because it is clearly an effort to garner a viewership that is increasingly seeking these types of ammo to support their own ideological perspectives. The original video on YouTube has over 1.5M views in 2 days. A pretty remarkable feat given the relative obscurity of the producer. I don't want to find out in 2 more days that he is a serial abuser or some other heinous personality flaw and that Mikovits is some quack who has had her credentials revoked or who has been getting funding from some anti-vax coalition.

With all of those caveats mentioned. I have to say this video is compelling. Profit motive has corrupted just about every sector of industry, government, and I can say without exception that it has corrupted science as well. It is ANOTHER aspect of distrust sown by government that makes American's of all different stripes suspect ulterior motives. The science is led by money in many cases and the community of scientists has a vested interest in silencing dissent in order to keep their funds coming. I'm not going to address specific allegations that are made in this video because there are too many and each one could easily be a post unto itself. What I see from the whole of this is that it is compelling. The scientific claims comport with settled science with a few exceptions that are still relatively controversial. Her claims about remedies for Autism, in particular, are something I would question.

One specific claim, the one about the anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine, is of particular interest to me and should be for the medical community. Several of the studies used to discredit the drug have been created with discrediting the drug in mind. The early suggestions that this drug would be helpful are founded on pretty sound science. It has been touted as a prophylactic and early treatment option in particular. But most of the media reported studies are on people with severe symptoms and multiple underlying conditions and advanced stages in the cycle of the virus. However, the early indications were that the drug used at the earliest onset of the virus, or even before initial exposure, reduced the severity of symptoms and improved (dramatically) the recovery time and suggested that it could reduce the case-fatality rate. Those claims were real-life application not lab tested controlled studies. What the lab does well is find problems. What it does poorly, is represent reality. The adage "a battle plan never survives contact with the enemy" comes to mind. Science is the battle plan, the enemy is reality.

To break this down succinctly. We have a lot of reasons to trust this video. We have a lot of reasons to suspect the motives of the video. We have a lot of reasons to distrust our government (and not necessarily the leadership, but the bureaucratic apparatus in particular). The media will spin this video in the next 24 hours and reveal the problems with all of the claims. However, I suspect the majority of the media will use ad hominem attacks on the character and credibility of the producer and the featured doctor. We will be left looking for the next valiant freedom fighter to expose the corruption. The best path forward it simply to believe your own principles and be guided by your quest for freedom and liberty. You are the hero in protecting that most precious gift from God. You are the white knight and must fight to maintain your freedoms against the overreach and tyranny of governors and legislatures that would like to rebuild the world in their own ideological image.
