Hello, everyone, greetings and salutations from the Pacific Northwestern U.S. First of all, I’d like to apologize for not having this chapter of My Gaming Journey: The Temple of Elemental Evil up sooner. My work has just been crazy and well…I’ve been distracted, you deserve better. Hopefully now I can get back into a groove and put out my more stuff.
Secondly, I apologize for this break taking so long, my work hours were really starting to interfere in my writing, and I ran into a major roadblock in TOEE which completely stymied me…until a video on the game by Kikoskia helped give me some clarity. I’m back now and reedy to give this a go.
Anyway, the story P.O.V. shifts to Jerrod Northstar Paladin of Heironeous. The party now heads to Nulb after finishing business in the Moathouse. The action shifts the corrupt city of Nulb as The Temple of Elemental Evil continues.
Jerrod Sunstar, Paladin of HeironeousHeironeous’ mercy, the Temple of Elemental Evil is not so deserted after all! Lareth’s information from his journal, and him, has helped to clarify things. Bad enough we’ve fought a servant of accursed Spider Queen, Lolth, but now we have to deal with her archenemy, the Demon Prince of Fungus Ziggutmoy, and several other factions. It would seem, we must finish what was started, 10 years ago.
Ziggtmoy, the Demon Prince of FUngus, and Lolth Archenemy! But I digress, with the Moathouse completed, we gathered our things and headed for Nulb. I had heard tales of that evil town, not a place for the innocent to go looking for trouble. I must say, when the party laid eyes on said location, the swampy pit did not disappoint.
Nulb, a swampy cesspool of scum and villany! No sooner did we arrive, then we sought guidance from a fortune teller. That’s when we received an unusual request from the Gypsy, Mona by name. She mentioned her crystal ball was stolen by someone who smelled like beer, and mentioned the name Mickey. We went around town looking for him, but could not find anything. We would’ve ben there forever, had not Viera remembered, that the Brewmeister back in Hommlet had an apprentice that went by that name.
A Gypsy lady needed the party's help. Any good deed in this town no matter how small...While journeying back to Hommlet, we ran into a couple of nasty undead. They really gave me a walloping. Still, the party, and even my fiancée, dealt with the situation nicely. Though, I loathe ever having to fight such nightmares again.
Getting back to Hommlet, we made our way to the Inn and got some rest. The next day, we headed over to the Brewmeister’s business. It did not take us long to find Mickey, and confront him. He promised to meet us in Nulb that evening. Rushing back to that den of wickedness, we confronted the thrill-seeking apprentice. He confessed to having taken the orb. Paying 500 gold pieces we took it back to Mona, who was grateful for the return.
A deal had to be struck in this shady town.Next up, we ran into a young lady named Serena, who was searching for her lost sister, and had taken on a huge debt with Mona. The book of Heironeous demands in Verse 9 Chapter 7, “Oh ye of the faith know that The Just must do whatever is needed, to free those bound in slavery.”
More wisdom from the Book of Divine Justice, heironeous' sacred text.We paid Serena’s debt and bid her farewell, I shall offer up a prayer to Heironeous, at the first chance, that she find her sister, and find the personal happiness she seeks. The platinum pieces we had saved were a small price to pay for the woman’s freedom.
Next up, we ran into a rather formidable looking man named Preston Wetz. Apparently, he was having a serious problem with a very sore tooth. He explained, that he would get it fixed save for Mona the Gypsy owing him money, and unable to pay him, due to her Crystal ball being stolen. We explained to him the situation with Mona was resolved, and he was grateful for that. This was a good deed that would come in handy later.
Preston Wetz, a shining example of good deeds can have good consequences.Right after that, Viera chose to get up to some hijinks. She met the apprentice of the local Blacksmith, name of Sammy. The lad mentioned that he’d noticed that his mentor, Otis the blacksmith, had a stash of loot beneath his anvil. Viera later confirmed that indeed he did. Also, Otis was in fact an agent for the King of Furyardy. My own mentor and I have traveled to that land, and we know the king to be a righteous and just ruler, dedicated to the ways of light.
It appears Otis the Blacksmith is more than he seems. The blacksmith proved very forthcoming with information, in regards to Inns and the Temple of Elemental Evil. However, he suggested we avoid the Inn as there are cutpurses there. He did mention there was a house in town that was for sale though. That could, potentially, be a convenience to us.
If you value your coin, you might want to avoid this Inn.The party then decided we needed to get some more experience through combat. So, we headed back to Emridy Meadow. We faced down a couple of nasty Gnoll Skeletons, on the way. I fear this is a sign that the Temple’s influence over the area is spreading. At the meadow, we came across a group of skeletal undead, and proceeded to eliminate them. We saw, in the distance, a Hill Giant and what looked like a big Brown Bear with him.
Best avoid that Hill Giant untilla higher level is reached.
Brown Bears are nothing to scoff at either.Knowing how much trouble both could be, we decided to avoid them. Tis better to err on the side of caution. On the way back to Nulb, we ran into two rather gigantic Ccrayfish, and dealt with them. As a result, the party has gotten stronger, I think.
When we arrived back in the swampy pit, known as Nulb, we inquired to Preston Wetz if the house was available. At first, he wanted 800 gold for it, but Viera, may Heironeous bless her, was able to talk him down to 500. The house is not much but there’s a fireplace, a stove, and some chests for storing excess loot. As soon as the party was settled in, Fruella and Melany took over the household in true matron fashion. Both are at the stove working on properly preparing the crayfish meat we gathered from that last fight. It’ll make for a stuffing stew; Giant Crayfish tend to have a lot of meat on them.
For 500 gold, the party now has a small sanctuary in this horrid place.I am thinking, that perhaps tomorrow we should turn our attention to dealing with that Hill Giant and Brown Bear. I think we may have reached the point where we can handle them. I have a feeling there may be some loot behind those two beasts and I am intrigued to see what it is. Every little piece of experience brings us that much closer to taking on the Temple of Elemental Evil. By all honorable means necessary, that bastion of wickedness, will soon be brought to an end!
