Whooo, what a year January has been! I cannot believe it is already the first of February. Time is such an interesting concept. We measure it, sometimes treasure it, and exchange it. I was told the older you get, the faster time flies. I wonder if that is because the wisdom you carry reveals the multitude of doors and opportunities life truly has to offer.
Rather than walking through one and searching for another as we do when we are young, we take peaks into the doors of the corridor of our life. Seeing not only the beauty, but the painful truth of impermanence. Though, in some cases impermanence isn't always a bad thing, but a gift which pulls at us to see the gems hidden in every storm.
I am learning that life happens in the pause, the stillness inside the chaos, the harbor in the tempest.
When we are in the moment, the present moment, the NOW, we tap into the actual flow of life and have the capability of making time stop. While the clock still ticks, we touch a field, an awareness in which time proves to be an illusion because when you are immersed in the present, five minutes can feel like five hours and five hours can feel like five minutes. It doesn't matter because for that moment, time doesn't exist and you are filled with so much bliss, you can't remember life being any other way.
Now, certainly it would be grand to live in that state for all our days. Work, home life, real life, chores, budgets...the human stuff...pulls us back into the measured life we choose to lead. Deadlines, due dates, goals measure our time and we must do actual work to progress, certainly.
If we spent more of our day in the present moment. If we paused frequently, even for a minute or two to smell the roses or take the scenic drive home, we would bring more beauty into our life and remember the place where time ceases to exist. Where we are not ruled by a calendar or deadline. Where life tastes sweet and we remember the importance of living our life.
Listen, really listen when people speak. Feel the vibrations of music pour through your body as you transport to a magical place. Indulge every now and then in something. Celebrate the small wins! Find the moments in your days that you can just lose yourself in. If you can't find them, create some! I promise, the more you do, the more will show up.
