The Socorro Dove is a Dove that is extinct in the wild. it was a native species to Socorro Island.
The last sighting of Socorro Dove in its natural habitat was 1972.
There are around 100 to 200 purebred Socorro Doves in captivity as of today.
Feral cats, sheep grazing, and being hunted by humans could be the main reason for the population decrease.
Various reintroduction and conservation efforts have taken place to save the Socorro Dove. In 1994, the birds' native island of Socorro was declared a biosphere preserve.
