Sad to see Carl lose one of his channels like this, but it's predictable and he shouldn't get upset about it (and he clearly isn't). However:
1: YT provided an initially free service, and people are too easily attracted by "free". When a "free" service is suddenly terminated, you need a backup plan. "Free" attracts lazy people. People are addicted to "free".
2: YT is no longer unique and should not be worshipped as such. Far too many people are still using YT when alternatives have long since sprung up.
3: If it makes money it's a business. If YT does not wish to act in a "businesslike" manner, i.e. maintaining the channel because it brings in profit, take your custom elsewhere and don't beat yourself up. It's a business decision.
4: Take your audience with you to a new platform without regrets. You do it for your audience who appreciate you, and not for YT who basically parasitise you in the name of profit. If they don't want to maintain your channel, then they don't deserve any of the revenue that it brings in, either.
We all need to change our attitudes about what we consume online and consider the costs and benefits. Happenstances such as this remind us that we have choices and can vote with our feet.
In a time when people are increasingly critical of content generally and are even severing their long-time contracts with the likes of cable TV, we should take the same attitude towards YT because most of their content is normie crap or clearly biased in one way or another.
In the final analysis, if people cut you off like that because they disagree with you, you must be doing something right!
