Former YG Entertainment trainee Han Seo Hee has become the whistle blower for the iKON drug scandal. iKON is a K Pop group and one of their members B.I. was charged with trying to acquire L.S.D.
Drugs are a big deal in South Korea. If a K Pop star smokes marijuana it is a massive scandal....therefore this L.S.D. incident is HUGE! Han Seo Hee admitted to using L.S.D. and marijuana and she is the one who ratted out B.I. Han Seo Hee also was in the news for using marijuana with T.O.P. (Big Bang Member) back in late 2016.
Han Seo Hee admitted that she had a drug dealer and would buy the drugs from the dealer and resell it to other K Pop artists.
Bang Jung Hyun is the lawyer of Han Seo Hee. He revealed in a CBS Radio interview that there are a lot of other K Pop celebrities that are doing drugs. However the biggest shocker from the interview was Bang Jung Hyun's admission that YG Entertainment and Yang Hyun Suk (Founder of YG Entertainment) knew of the rampant drug use. So much so that they ran a program where YG would send their artists to Japan in order to clearn their system of drugs.
So one might ask who are the other K Pop stars that are using drugs? For now Han Seo Hee has not revealed those names, but it could come out in the coming months.
The bigger story is not actually that K Pop celebrities are taking drugs. But the coverup from YG Entertainment. A major Korean company covering up their employees drug use is a major deal. Also, if Korean government officals are involved it becomes an even bigger deal. So far, with all the scandal that has happened in Korea involving sex, drugs, and corruption, not a single government offical or VIP businessman has been named.
Is it possible for Han Seo Hee to take down one of the biggest entertainment companies in Korea? Will she be looked at as a hero or a villian? While she is getting a lot of hate from fans of YG, she is staying strong and seems to want to move ahead and speaking the truth.
In the end the ones that will be punished the most will be the K Pop celebrities themselves. YG, Korean government officals, and VIP clients will escape punishement. That is how it is in Korea. The users are punished while the distributors are given a slap on the wrist.
The whole drug scandal in Korea is very interesting because you can make an argument that alcohol is one of the most dangerous legal drugs in Korea. Yet Korean ranks #1 in regards to total alcohol consumpiton. In America if a celebrity does drugs it is pretty much a given. Korea needs to get with the times and threat drug use as more of a health issue rather than a criminal issue. The laws regarding drugs in Korea is too strict. As more and more news comes out regarding drug use in the K Pop industry, there might be a movement in Korea to take another look on how they view drugs.
As for YG Entertainment, they have two options. Embrace this "bad boy" image and become the edgy K Pop Entertainment company that allows their artists to be experimental and free.....or shut down.
