The castle of Eger

The most famous Hungarian castle. The castle is popular thanks to the novel by Géza Gárdonyi, the Stars of Eger. There are many exhibitions and programs in the castle.

The seat of the Eger bishopric, was located on the castle hill for 500 years. After the Mongol invasion, a castle was built to protect the bishopric. It has been rebuilt and expanded several times.

In the middle of the castle garden you can see the remains of the once large, Romanesque and Gothic-style bishop's cathedral.
