It is no surprise that most Americans, and even most humans across the globe, are in constant anxiety and fear. Centralization of power continues to make our lives harder and decrease freedom. If you read any of my blogs you know how I feel about centralized power. What does this have to do with space travel and colonization? I’ll reference the original intent of the 13 states upon the end of the American Revolution. The new states, formerly colonies, were 13 different countries. After all a state is just another word for country. The average person was free and although life was hard, they lived it on their own terms or within the confines they chose within their community. This is the optimal way of things. Those days are gone and I fear we will never truly know them in our, or our children’s, or our grandchildren’s life times. There may be hope though.
As Elon Musk works on a starship capable of transporting people and material to Mars, the technology will come allowing us to move beyond our solar system. It has to or humanity will probably destroy itself and this planet. There is a reason so many intelligent Sci-Fi authors have written stories set in the future where Earth isn’t even a consideration it has been so long abandoned. The answer to our modern day woes is pretty simple; decentralization. I don’t mean Bitcoin, I mean total decentralization the likes of which only distance and time offered by space can offer.
Novels like Foundation show a much grimmer version of events where galactic empire runs everything and power is centralized to one planet, but that seems to me the least likely scenario. If you were running from Earth and willing to take the most dangerous voyage in mankind’s history to start humanity over on a new planet, would you really want to relinquish control of your economy and daily life over to some despot millions of light-years away? I would think not. The opportunity to really survive is the opportunity to truly thrive. This is only available to us now by moving humanity to the stars. The earth is captured. We all know it. We all think it. We realize that no amount of voting or internet rage is making a difference. Liberty in our life time is a lofty goal that will probably never be achieved. States are overly beholden to the federal government. Countries are overly beholden to the WEF and banking. Instead of burning it all down, we should just move to higher ground. Much higher. Beyond our atmosphere higher. Let the red communists have their planet. Let the rest of the people who want to be free have theirs and never the twain shall meet. Develop and thrive, allow freedom of movement to and from the planet and cities/states developed on the planet, and leave the politicians on Earth.
As we continue to loathe our corrupt political class and too often each other over the stupid politics we are endowed with by our would-be despot rulers, can there be any doubt that the environment for change is missing? We will become a lost species in the grand tale of time and space unless we get off this planet. Unless we take that first step to a free and independent Mars, which will lead to a free and independent new planet, and so on, we are doomed to be discovered one day by some space faring species who will look at our social media archives, our words in print and ask themselves, “why did they allow themselves to be destroyed like this” and that scares me. My kids and their kids and every genetic descendent deserve more. We had two generations make our lives worse instead of better and there is no sign that this will change. Sure we can see it now thanks to social media, but what are we doing about it? Only one person I know of is thinking that far ahead and too many people hate him for it. I hope that he stays the course. For humanities sake.
