“It was 20 years ago today…” On this day in 1999, Dr. Frank’s (@frankportman) debut solo album, Show Business Is My Life, was released. What’s your favorite song from it? I actually didn’t know about this album until around Day 100. You’d think I’d jump all over it, but the truth is, I liked knowing there was a full album of Dr. Frank songs I haven’t heard yet, ready to be played at a moment when I truly “needed it”, when I was in such a state that only new Dr. Frank songs could cheer me up. That moment finally came one sad, lonely November night. Popped on my headphones, pressed play, and I know this is super cliché, but I really did laugh, and I really did cry. Those thirteen little songs were just what I needed to keep me going. Music is powerful! Anyone who has seen Dr. Frank play a solo show recently will have noticed he has written tons of great new songs in these last 20 years. Let’s hope he gets those all recorded sometime soon and churns out yet another classic!
